Dear Ram Family, We wanted to take this time to share some important information and a reminder with you. Reminder: Monday, October 23rd is marked as a "No School Day" for all students and staff members. All school buildings will be closed for the day. Important Information: On Tuesday, November 7th, during the general election, the Greene County Community School District will be asking voters to extend the Voter Approved Physical Plant & Equipment Levy and Income Surtax for an additional 10 years. This highly important fund has always been in place for our schools and does not represent a new or increased tax on our community members. A reminder that the Fall Music Concert will take place on Thursday, October 26. Please note the time change with the 7-12 band Halloween concert starting at 6:30 pm, and the 7-12 choirs to follow. All performances will take place in the high school auditorium.

Greene County Community School will be holding the monthly board meeting at the admin building (101 Ram Drive, Jefferson, IA) this evening beginning at 5:15 PM. The public is welcome to attend. The Elementary Flu Clinic that was to be held today, October 12th, has been rescheduled to Wed. Oct.18th from 9:30-11:00. For those parents/staff members who signed up for it- you will NOT need to re-submit paperwork. The Fall Vocal Concert has been rescheduled for Thursday, October 26, following the band Halloween performances. Band will be at 6:30 pm, with the 7-12 vocal concert to follow at 7:00 pm. All performances will be held in the high school auditorium.

Greene County Public Health is offering flu shot clinics for all students and staff. The COVID vaccine will not be available. Please call Greene County Public Health at 515-386-3228 to inquire about the availability of that vaccine. Career Academy students in Human Anatomy and Physiology I class learned about DNA, RNA, and coding for amino acids with their instructor Amber Lawton today in class.

Sand created the PIE program in 2019 to encourage public entities across Iowa to think outside the box and spark innovative ideas to save public funds. The PIE program checklist provides local leaders with tools to collaborate and share their concepts, known as PIE recipes, via the Auditor of State’s website. State Auditor, Rob Sand, has announced today that Greene County CSD has been voted as the Best Performing 3A School District for the Annual PIE (Public Innovation and Efficiencies) Award. Greene County CSD has went "the extra mile" over the last year to ensure that public tax dollars are used efficiently through the daily operations of the school district with improved heating and cooling systems, energy shutdown programs, lighting, and fire suppression systems. Greene County CSD has also worked to develop clear and efficient processes for staff evaluation and feedback, which has been implemented for the 2023-2024 school year.

The Greene County Activities Department is seeking nominations for the Greene County Athletic Hall of Fame. To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, nominees need to be State Champions or received 1st Team All-State recognition. Teams need to be state champions to be considered. The detailed criteria are included in the nomination form. Nomination forms are available by contacting the Activities Office.

Middle School and Elementary students have their regular dismissal times today.

Unfortunately, we will have to cancel the Homecoming parade due to rain. The coronation will take place at 2:00 in the high school auditorium. The public is welcome to attend. The event will also be livestreamed via the GCCSD YouTube Channel. See below for the link. High school students will still be dismissed at 1:30, but are encouraged to attend the coronation. We are watching the weather for this afternoon. In the case of inclement weather, the parade will be canceled. The coronation will take place at 2:00 in the high school auditorium. Everyone is welcome to attend. A decision will be made and communicated by 12:00 today. Happy Homecoming!

This is a reminder that Greene County and the Heart of Iowa Conference have gone to a cashless ticket system for all athletic events. We encourage people to purchase their tickets ahead of time at this link: https://www.gobound.com/ia/schools/greenecounty/tickets or use the attached QR code that will take you to the web site. Once there you can scroll and select the event for which you want to purchase tickets. Purchasing your tickets ahead of time will help speed up your admission to the game. You can also purchase tickets at the gate using a credit/debit card or Apple Pay. We are striving to make this process work as smoothly as possible. Due to thunderstorms, the cross country meet tonight at West Marshall has been cancelled.

On November 7th, 2023, Greene County CSD will be asking residents and community members to extend the Voter Approved Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (Voter Approved PPEL) for an additional 10 years. These funds have been extremely vital to the success of our students and school district and we would appreciate your support at the polls on November 7th, 2023. We will continue to send out additional information each week leading up to the election regarding this highly important vote for our schools. As a reminder, this is not a new tax and this is not a general obligation bond. This is a vote to extend the property tax funding to support our schools for another 10 years.
