Thirty-one students from Greene County High School traveled with work-based learning instructor Mrs. Garnett and iJag instructor Mrs. Hermansen to the Build My Future event at the Iowa State Fairgrounds on April 16.
Students were given the opportunity to visit with over 120 various exhibitors. Many of the exhibits offered hands-on experiences. Some of the opportunities available to students included: wiring a power pole, using a nail gun to secure flooring joists, pipe fitting, programming a robotic “dog”, observing a K-9 unit in action, operating a crane, completing DNA forensic work, performing a virtual operation, and visiting with many branches of the Military and a multitude of first responders.
This event drew over 7000 students from the state of Iowa and is put on by the Iowa Skilled Trades. This is an annual event that will occur again next spring on April 15, 2026.
