Thirteen students in grades 1, 2, and 3 participated in the construction career exploration camp held at the Greene County Career Academy on Monday, November 7th. Iowa State Extension County Youth and 4-H Coordinator Samantha Hardaway along with sophomore construction student Oliver Harris helped assemble bird houses for each student and then helped the students paint them.
While we waited for the paint to dry, Oliver Harris gave the students a tour of the career academy woodworking shop. Students were very inquisitive and asked Oliver a lot of questions about the different pieces of equipment.
This was another fun night with the students learning a lot and getting to be in the shop making their own project.
Our next construction camp is on Monday, November 14th, for students in grades 4-8. This class is from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. You can sign up by calling ISU Extension at 515.386.2138.
The career pathway featured in December is computer science. Students in grades 1-3 will have their camp on December 5th, and students in grades 4-8 will be on December 19th. Sign up early to reserve your child's spot!
